FAQ
How to Use Mounjaro | Frequently Asked Questions
Q1. Is the Ateos a single-use device? Can it be reused?
The Ateos is a single-use auto-injector. Each device contains one dose of Mounjaro and cannot be reused. After injection, the needle automatically retracts inside the device, and neither the needle nor the medication can be replaced or topped up. Dispose of it promptly after use.
Q2. Where should I inject?
Mounjaro is injected subcutaneously into the abdomen (avoid the area within 5 cm of the navel), the front of the thigh, or the upper arm. To avoid injecting into the same spot repeatedly, rotate the injection site each week. Avoid areas with skin abnormalities, wounds, or redness.
Q3. Is there a specific timing (day or time) for injection?
Mounjaro is injected once a week on the same day each week. The time of day does not matter—morning, afternoon, or evening is fine. It can be taken before or after meals, on an empty or full stomach. Choose a day and time that fits your routine and stick with it consistently each week.
Q4. What should I do if I miss a dose?
If there are 4 days (96 hours) or more until your next scheduled dose, inject the missed dose as soon as possible. Then return to your original day for weekly injections. If there are less than 4 days until your next scheduled dose, skip the missed dose and inject as usual on your next scheduled day. Never inject two doses within 3 days to make up for a missed dose.
Q5. How should I dispose of the used Ateos?
Although the needle of a used Ateos is retracted inside the device, it must be disposed of safely as medical waste. Never throw it in household trash. Store it in a puncture-resistant container such as an empty bottle or thick plastic container. Self-pay patients can bring used devices to our clinic at their next visit for proper disposal. Insurance-covered patients in Japan should bring them to the dispensing pharmacy where they received the medication. Patients living overseas should follow the medical waste regulations of their country or region. If you are unsure how to dispose of it, please contact your local pharmacy, medical facility, or municipal public health office.
