What Is Rybelsus?
Rybelsus (generic name: oral semaglutide) is the world’s first oral GLP-1 receptor agonist. It uses the same active ingredient as injectable Ozempic and Wegovy (semaglutide), made available in tablet form through a special absorption enhancer (SNAC). It is a genuinely innovative medication.
Taken just once a day in the morning on an empty stomach. Particularly suitable for those who are reluctant to start injections or who are beginning GLP-1 therapy for the first time.

Gastrointestinal symptoms are the most common. Most resolve within 2–4 weeks after starting. We can prescribe anti-nausea medication if needed.

Important Instructions for Taking Rybelsus
How you take Rybelsus directly affects its effectiveness. Please follow these instructions carefully:
- Take immediately upon waking, on an empty stomach (at least 30 minutes before eating)
- Use no more than approx. 120 mL of water (about half a glass) to swallow the tablet
- Avoid food, drink, and other medications for 30 minutes after taking
- Swallow the tablet whole — do not crush or chew

- Even though both use semaglutide, the injectable (Wegovy) achieves greater weight loss (avg. ~15%). Rybelsus delivers approximately 4–5%, but offers the significant advantage of no injections. For those seeking stronger results, we can discuss stepping up to Wegovy or Mounjaro.
- Q. Why must Rybelsus be taken on an empty stomach?
- Taking it with food significantly reduces absorption and effectiveness. Taking it on an empty stomach with a small amount of water (approx. 120 mL), then waiting 30–60 minutes before eating, maximizes the drug’s efficacy.
