A once-daily tablet that excretes glucose via urine to help manage weight and blood sugar. Online consultations available nationwide.
International patients are very welcome. Customs certificates for returning travelers are also available.
- We use SGLT2 inhibitors routinely in treating diabetes, heart failure, and kidney disease, giving us thorough knowledge of these medications’ properties and risks
- We can make comprehensive assessments including cardiac and renal status, not just weight management
- If side effects such as urinary tract infections occur, we can manage them on the spot as internists
- Lifestyle disease values (blood sugar, blood pressure, lipids) monitored together
What Are SGLT2 Inhibitors?
SGLT2 inhibitors work on the kidneys to excrete excess glucose from the blood via urine. Approximately 60–100g of glucose (equivalent to about 240–400 kcal) is automatically eliminated from the body each day. This is a completely different mechanism from GLP-1 medications — glucose is excreted even after meals, which is this drug class’s unique advantage.
In addition to weight loss (average 2–4 kg), recent research has revealed cardiac and renal protective effects, making these medications particularly suitable for patients with obesity-related lifestyle diseases.
Available Medications
Forxiga (dapagliflozin)
Considered to have the highest weight-reduction effect among SGLT2 inhibitors. Also indicated for heart failure and chronic kidney disease, with extensive supporting evidence. An average weight loss of approximately 2.58 kg over 52 weeks has been reported.
Canaglu (canagliflozin)
Backed by extensive international clinical research. An average weight loss of approximately 3.8 kg (about 5%) over 24 weeks has been reported. Suitable for those concerned about post-meal blood sugar spikes or those prioritizing weight loss.
Jardiance, Suglat, Lusefi
We also carry other SGLT2 inhibitors. Jardiance is preferred for cardiac protection; Suglat and Lusefi may be options for those concerned about side effects. Please discuss during your consultation.
Who Is This Suitable For?
- Those who enjoy carbohydrates (rice, noodles, bread) and find strict dieting difficult
- Those who prefer to avoid injections (Mounjaro, Wegovy)
- Those concerned about water retention or seeking a mild diuretic effect
- Those with elevated blood pressure or uric acid levels
- Those seeking cardiac and renal protection in addition to weight management
- Those who want gentle, sustainable weight and blood sugar control
Who Cannot Use This Medication?
- Those with severe kidney impairment (eGFR below 30)
- Those who are dehydrated or have recurrent urinary tract infections
- Those who are pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or breastfeeding
- Those with a BMI below 18.5
- Those aged 75 or over with sarcopenia or cognitive impairment

Frequently Asked Questions
- Q. Is health insurance accepted?
- When used for weight loss without a diagnosis of diabetes, heart failure, or kidney disease, treatment is self-pay (private). Patients with these conditions may be eligible for insurance coverage.
- Q. How much weight can I expect to lose?
- Clinical trials show an average reduction of 2–4 kg (approximately 4–5% of body weight) over 24 weeks to 1 year. The effect is more moderate than GLP-1 medications (Mounjaro, Wegovy), but SGLT2 inhibitors offer superior cardiac and renal protection.
- Q. How are SGLT2 inhibitors different from Mounjaro or Wegovy?
- GLP-1 medications suppress appetite to reduce weight, while SGLT2 inhibitors excrete glucose via urine to manage weight and blood sugar. GLP-1 medications generally produce greater weight loss, but SGLT2 inhibitors offer better cardiac and renal protection and are well-suited to those who enjoy carbohydrates.
- Q. Can I use SGLT2 inhibitors without a diabetes diagnosis?
- Yes, they can be prescribed as private (self-pay) care at a physician’s discretion. Forxiga and Jardiance also have indications for heart failure and chronic kidney disease.
- Q. Can international patients receive treatment?
- Yes. English support is available. We can also issue a medical certificate for customs declaration upon returning to your home country.
